Kitul treacle is made from the sap of the inflorescence of the Sri Lankan kitul palm, Caryota urens. The treacle is made from pure sap that has been boiled down to a thick, sweet dark brown syrup with a taste similar to dates and a tinge of caramel. Kitul Pany, as it is known in Sri Lanka, is a natural sweetener that has been used for centuries.
